A hat is a shameless flatterer, calling attention to an escaping curl, a tawny braid, a sprinkling of freckles over a pert nose, directing the eye to what is most unique about a face. Its curves emphasize a shining pair of eyes, a lofty forehead; its deep brim accentuates the pale tint of a cheek, creates an aura of prettiness, suggests a mystery that awakens curiosity in the onlooker. Let’s face it, to a lot of avatars, one of the most inspirational pieces in Second Life are hats! Hats, tall ones, frilly ones, artsy ones, and most of all day to day ones! Where I live in the “real world” there isn’t any need for hats, accept perhaps in the summer to ward against sunburn, so one of my greatest joys in Second Life is to don all these magnificent hats that I couldn’t possibly afford in real life. And with increased inworld interest in them, the truly talented milliners have made their presence known.

One of these people is Petalos Clary of Baoba. Today, being in a post Miss Virtual World relaxation mood, I decided to keep it simple for a day of hanging with friends. I am wearing the Velvet Black cap, a sporty velvet “newsboy” cap, the black velvet accentuated with a light smattering of polka dots! To make the hat playfully glam, Baoba included two chicly gauzy hibiscus type flowers. The overall affect of added details in this hats appearance take it from run of the mill, to over the top in elegance.

If you are looking for the defining accessory for whatever you are wearing a particular day, check out Baoba, I know you will find a hat that will make you Gorgeous! After all, saying you don’t look good in a hat is like saying you don’t look good in shoes! So I will leave you with a quote from noted author Felecia Mcmillan, author of Crowns-Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats, “We just know inside that we’re queens. And these are the crowns we wear.”  Taxi:
